Exploring Swedish models of sustainable farming | Study visit to Sweden on October 22 to 23 2025
The exciting study visit programme offered Lithuanian farmers and project partners an in depth look at how Swedish farms successfully combine renewable energy circular economy practices and local food systems.
The visit began at Björketorps Gård which demonstrates how a traditional dairy and meat farm can evolve into a modern enterprise that integrates biogas production dairy processing educational activities and events. Participants also met the creators of Pop Up Kitchen a network that links growers chefs and small scale food producers to jointly develop new culinary experiences. The day concluded with discussions at Ödevata Gårdshotell where Bodil Nilsson shared insights on LEADER initiatives and Torun Israelsson presented experience from regional energy projects. Their perspectives highlighted the role of community engagement circular thinking and effective energy planning in rural development.
The second day focused on hands on learning at Ödevata farm. Participants explored biochar production aquaponic greenhouses educational programmes and sustainable tourism models. The study visit wrapped up at Aggaboden a local products shop restaurant and community space where sustainability food and local identity come together.
The visit provided valuable insights into practical and collaborative approaches for building resilient farm based energy and food systems. It highlighted how meaningful progress grows from shared experience and a strong commitment to innovation.
